Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: Rajkishor Digal of Danganika village in Kandhamal district Rajkishor Digal has proved himself as a successful organic vegetable farmer, despite losing a leg in an electric accident.
Losing a leg at the age of 22 and the thought of walking with the help of crutches for the rest of my life did break me psychologically. But when I realised that this is the reality, I decided to take disability in my stride and work harder to make things better for myself and my family, said now 28-year-old Rajkishor
In April, 2017, he accidentally stepped on a live 11 KV wire which was lying on the road while returning home. He was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack and was left with an amputated leg. It took him two years to recover completely.
During his treatment at SCB Hospital he came in contact with a girl Jagatsinghpur, Prabhati. Both fell in love and got married after Rajkishore got discharged from the hospital.
He has adopted organic farming and growing paddy along with cauliflower, cabbage, tomato, beans and other vegetables.
I am earning over Rs 3 lakh per annum from organic farming. My organic approach to cultivation without using fertilisers and pesticides made a market place for my produces, said Digal.
Digal had attended the recently concluded three-day Matsya Pranee Samavesh Odisha 2024 in Bhubaneswar.
