Bhubaneswar, April 8: The Odisha health department is going to open Post Graduate (PG) courses in four new medical colleges in the state.
The health department of Odisha has already prepared a detailed report in this regard and the number of PG seats will be decided considering faculty strength of the medical colleges.
The health department has sought permission of the National Medical Commission (NMC) for opening PG courses at SLN Medical College & Hospital, Koraput, Bhima Bhoi Medical College 7 Hospital, Balangir, PRM Medical College & Hospital Baripada and Fakir Mohan Medical College & Hospital, Balasore, said a senior official.
In a bid to manage shortage of doctors, Dean and Principal of the colleges will decide to appoint contractual assistant and associate professors on 12th of every month.
Besides, steps are being taken for appointment of new doctors on 26th of every month under the supervision of the Directorate of Medical Training and Education (DMET).
The medical colleges can also appoint super speciality doctors on contractual basis in case of necessity. The health department has made a corpus fund for this.
Odisha has now 11 medical colleges and two PG institutions. The state government has taken initiative to open three new medical colleges in Jajpur, Phulbani and Angul.
