Bhubaneswar, Apr 4: Ahead of the Odisha Assembly elections, Arindam Sarkhel, popularly known as Bapi Sarkhel, today resigned from the Congress. And BJD leader and former Deputy Assembly Speaker Ramchandra Panda tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the party today.
Sarkhel tendered his resignation letter to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Sarat Pattanayak citing to ‘focus on work as a trade union leader’ as the reason behind the move. Speculations are rife that Sarkhel is likely to join the ruling BJD and contest the elections. It is worth mentioning that Sarkhel’s wife Monideepa Sarkhel joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) along with her supporters a few days back.
Notably, Sarkhel had unsuccessfully contested the 2014 and 2019 elections from Paradeep Assembly seat on a Congress ticket.
