Cuttack, July 3: In an unfortunate incident, a woman home guard was crushed to death by a speeding truck in Chhatra Bazar area of Odisha's Cuttack today.
The deceased has been identified as Manorama Panda, a home guard deployed at Malgodown police station.
As per reports, Manorama was cycling home with groceries when a speeding truck ran over her in the crowded marketplace on Taladanda road stretch in Chhatra Bazar today morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the speeding truck hit the bicycle from behind, running over Manorama and crushing her under its wheels before coming to a stop. She suffered fatal injuries and died instantly.
After being alerted, Malgodown police quickly reached the scene and seized the victim’s body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem. The cops also seized the truck and detained the driver for questioning.
A case has been filed and further investigation into the matter was underway, said the police.
