PUNE, July 3, 2025 – A 22‑year‑old woman employed at a private IT firm was allegedly raped inside her apartment in Kondhwa, Pune, after a man impersonating a delivery executive sprayed a sedative and left a threatening text message. According to Pune police, the incident occurred around 7:30 pm on July 2, while her brother had stepped out for work.
In his preliminary statement, Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajkumar Shinde revealed that the assailant entered the building posing as a delivery person, carrying what he claimed were “bank documents.” He requested the victim’s signature and, citing a missing pen, lured her inside the flat. Once inside, he locked the door and used a spray that rendered the woman unconscious. When she regained consciousness, the suspect had fled.
Disturbingly, the accused had also taken a photo of the victim on her phone and sent a message threatening to circulate it if she reported the crime, warning ominously that “he would come again”.
The police have activated a rapid-response investigation: ten teams have been formed, the forensic and canine units have combed the scene, and all available CCTV and technical evidence is being scrutinised. They’ve also generated a facial sketch based on a partial image captured by the suspect’s phone.
The victim, originally from another district in Maharashtra, was assaulted under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita: rape (Section 64), voyeurism (Section 77) and criminal intimidation (Sections 351–2). The case has been lodged at the Kondhwa police station.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar emphasized that this brazen act—disguised as a routine delivery—marks a troubling trend. He appealed to residents to exercise caution when welcoming strangers into homes, even in trusted residential complexes.
Residents in Pune housing societies are now on edge, verifying delivery personnel credentials and checking CCTV feeds more vigilantly. Authorities urge anyone with sightings of a suspicious-looking delivery person at similar times to immediately contact local police.
As the investigation intensifies, law enforcement are urging anyone with leads—especially those near CCTV footage from the evening of July 2—to come forward. The accused remains at large, but Pune police stress that swift action and advanced forensic techniques could lead to his swift apprehension.
