Bhubaneswar, Sept 1: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that a low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal region by September 2.

The Met Department said that a cyclonic circulation has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjacent coasts of West Bengal and Odisha on Sunday. Under its influence, a low-pressure system is expected to form in the region by September 2.

The system is expected to bring heavy rainfall to southern Odisha, especially in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, and Kalahandi districts. 

In addition, the regional weather office has issued a 24-hour weather alert, forecasting rainfall across various areas in both North and South Odisha.

An orange alert has been issued for Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Koraput districts, indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall. 

Additionally, a warning has been issued for Rayagada, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Gajapati, Balangir, and Nuapada districts, with heavy rainfall expected in these areas.

Residents of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, and Boudh districts are advised to remain cautious due to the expected rainfall, along with lightning and thunderstorms in the coming days.
