India sends emergency forensic and medical supplies to Nepal
India delivered another eleven tonnes of humanitarian aid to Nepal on Saturday, supplying vital medicines, tents, hygiene kits, and forensic materials to regions destroyed by recent landslides. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirmed this latest consignment, noting India remains deeply committed to helping its neighbour recover from natural disasters. Historically, India has always been the first responder in South Asia during regional crises, reflecting its neighbourhood-first diplomatic strategy.

Recent data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority paints a grim picture of the catastrophe. Authorities confirmed 1,410 fatalities by the evening of September 18, a figure that includes 525 human remains. Chitwan suffered the highest casualties with 364 dead, closely followed by Nawalparasi East at 232 and Nawalparasi West at 222. Nuwakot reported 202 deaths, while Rasuwa recorded 199.

Emergency crews are desperately looking for 6,055 people who remain missing. Meanwhile, search parties have successfully rescued 13,756 individuals across multiple districts. Various security forces provided medical treatment to 9,984 survivors, and eighteen people are currently receiving care at six local hospitals. Nepal mobilised 20,929 security personnel for these operations. Helicopters play a crucial role in reaching isolated zones. The Nepal Army completed 1,651 flights, including 17 recent trips, while the Armed Police Force conducted 320 aerial missions. Flights carrying Indian aid began arriving in late August. On September 9, an eighth cargo plane transported 35 tonnes of supplies, bringing tunnel rescue equipment and forensic kits to Kathmandu. Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava formally transferred these items to Nepal's Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Mahabir Pun. This package also restocked Indian Army teams and National Disaster Response Force personnel already operating on the ground. Indian experts currently help search crews at the Chilime tunnel in Rasuwa.

Government agencies, private groups, and development partners continue moving essential goods via air and road networks. Relief authorities shipped 502 gas cylinders to remote villages. Currently, 23 holding centres provide shelter to displaced families, accommodating 611 people in Nuwakot, 231 in Rasuwa, and 121 in Dhading. Both nations remain intensely focused on medical support, victim identification, and sustaining displaced communities.
