Karandeep Anand steps in as Disney’s Chief Technology Officer for their Strategic Digital Expansion move

Karandeep Anand takes charge as Disney first corporate technology leader

Entertainment powerhouse Walt Disney has appointed Karandeep Anand as its first corporate-wide Chief Technology Officer, marking a decisive shift toward centralized engineering and artificial intelligence. Anand assumes the role of Senior Executive Vice President and CTO starting October 2. He will report directly to Disney Chief Executive Officer Josh D’Amaro. Under this newly created corporate mandate, Anand will guide enterprise technology, infrastructure, data management, and consumer digital experiences across all company divisions. D'Amaro described Anand as a skilled strategist whose technical acumen and product mindset will sharpen how the company serves modern consumers.

Proven track record in digital innovation

Before this transition, Anand served as chief executive of generative conversational platform Character.AI. His career spans more than two decades in core software architecture and digital business operations. He spent 15 years at Microsoft, playing a key part in building the Azure cloud infrastructure. Anand subsequently joined Meta as vice president of advertising and business products before serving as president and chief product officer at financial technology startup Brex. Academically, Anand earned his computer science degree from the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H), followed by advanced executive training at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. His arrival at Disney bridges technical infrastructure expertise with consumer product design.

Strategic shift in global entertainment

Hollywood conglomerates are reorganising operational hierarchies to meet intense competition from Silicon Valley streaming services and generative digital tools. Media studios traditionally separated theme park systems, broadcasting networks, and streaming operations into isolated technology units. Unifying these branches under a single corporate technology chief reflects how vital digital infrastructure has become for global entertainment longevity. Disney previously relied on division-level technical officers, with Adam Smith serving as the senior technology executive before his recent promotion to direct-to-consumer chairman. By bringing Anand into direct corporate oversight, Disney establishes a unified technical foundation to power storytelling, interactive park experiences, and global streaming delivery.
