Bhubaneswar, August 12: In a significant operation, the Jaleswar Police of Balasore district apprehended seven members of an inter-state dacoit gang on Monday. The gang was preparing for a bank robbery when they were caught, said Dr. Satyajit Naik, DIG, Eastern Range, Balasore.
The arrested individuals are Biswajit Mohanty (38) and Jagannath Raul (27) from Balasore, Venkat Rao (40), Delhi, B. Hariprasad (36), Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal, Fakir Nayak (30), West Bengal, Mangal Bhuyan (24), West Bengal, and Gouri Shankar Gochhayat (23), West Bengal.
The police seized a significant amount of firearms, ammunition, and tools during the raid. These include 2 pistols with 14 rounds of ammo in 3 magazines, 1 country-made gun with one round of ammunition, an iron rod, gas cylinder, cutter, screwdrivers, chili powder packet, cigarettes, 6 mobile phones, a Suzuki Maruti car, and three motorcycles.
A case has been registered under section 416/2024 u/s 310(4)/310(5) of the Bharatiya Naya Sanhita (BNS) and is currently under investigation.
