Bhubaneswar, August 17: The arrested accused Raju Mandal in the SIM box seizure case in Bhubaneswar hails from West Bengal. Mandal's handler was a Bangladeshi national identified as Asadur Jaman, Twin City Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda informed on Saturday at a press conference.
“His work was to ensure that UPS, internet, and other services are functional. The SIM box was used to bypass international calls to Pakistan, China and the Middle East,” said Panda.
The police seized around 1000 SIM cards from seven boxes, mostly pre-activated from West Bengal, old SIMs routers and other equipments during the raid on a rented house in the capital city of Odisha on Friday.
A special team conducted a raid on the house at Mahadevnagar under Laxmisagar police limits after getting information regarding suspicious activities of a youth who had taken the house on rent.
The seized equipments were used to make international and national calls without the receiver getting scope to know the source of the call, said police.
