Security forces, militants exchange fire in two J&K districts

Jammu, Aug 29: A gunfight erupted lateWednesday night between security forces and militants in a remote village of Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir.
According to an official report, the clash took place in Lathi village, Khawas tehsil, during a search operation initiated after receiving intelligence about the presence of militants in the area.
The official stated that contact was established when the security forces closed in on the militants, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire. The gunfight lasted for several hours into the night, with intermittent firing still ongoing when the last reports were received.
In a separate incident, another encounter occurred in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, also late last night. The encounter reportedly began after security forces thwarted an infiltration attempt by militants trying to cross into the region.
These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges in maintaining security in the region, with multiple encounters reported in different areas.
