New Delhi, Aug 15: Tech giant Google celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day with a special doodle highlighting the country's architectural splendor. Designed by freelance art director, illustrator, and animator Vrinda Zaveri, the doodle features doors and windows adorned with the tricolors of the Indian flag—saffron, white, and green, along with navy blue.
The digital artwork creatively incorporates the letters ‘G’, ‘O’, ‘O’, ‘G’, ‘L’, and ‘E’ into the design of each door, reflecting intricate and distinct patterns.
In a blog post, Google commemorated August 15, 1947, the day India emerged from nearly two centuries of colonial rule marked by inequality, violence, and the denial of fundamental rights. The freedom movement was led by prominent figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Subhas Chandra Bose.
“The perseverance and sacrifices of our freedom fighters have paid off,” Google stated.
Independence Day across India is marked by flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, musical performances, community rallies, and the singing of the national anthem, Jana Gana Mana. The country is adorned with decorations in saffron, white, and green, as depicted in Google’s doodle.
In related events, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort and paid tribute to freedom fighters. This year’s Independence Day theme, "Viksit Bharat@2047," highlights the government's ambition to make India a developed nation by 2047, marking a century of independence. PM Modi emphasized that “Viksit Bharat 2047” reflects the resolve and dreams of 140 crore citizens.
