Samba (Jammu & Kashmir), May 9: Amid the escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, the Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday gunned down as many as seven terrorists during a foiled infiltration bid on the International Border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to BSF sources, a group of heavily armed terrorists, with support from Pakistani rangers providing cover fire, tried to infiltrate into India through the International Border in Samba district.

“Seven terrorists have been killed during this foiled infiltration bid and the operation is still underway in the area," said sources.

The infiltration bid by Pakistani forces supported terrorists comes after Indian troops neutralized drones and short-range missiles aimed at defence sites in Jammu, Samba, R.S. Pura, and other areas.

A BSF spokesperson said that a major attempt to cross the International Border was stopped around 11 p.m. on Thursday night. The terrorists trying to enter were pushed back and forced to return to the Pakistan side of the border.

Meanwhile, a woman was killed and another was injured when Pakistan heavily shelled civilian areas in the Uri sector of Baramulla district last evening. Officials said a shell fired from across the Line of Control (LoC) hit a vehicle traveling from Razerwani to Baramulla near Mohura.

The Pakistan Army continued heavy mortar shelling in Uri, Tangdhar, Poonch, and Rajouri along the Line of Control (LoC), and in Samba along the International Border.

Drones and short-range missiles aimed at Jammu airport and other defence sites in Jammu city were successfully stopped in the air by the Armed Forces' air defence system.

Soon after warning sirens went off, a full blackout was carried out in Jammu and Srinagar to protect people from a possible attack. Power has now been restored in both cities.

Due to the current situation, all schools, colleges, and universities in Jammu and Kashmir will stay closed on Friday and Saturday.
