New Delhi, Sept 4: Salil Kapoor, the former President of Atlas Cycles, was found dead in an apparent suicide at his residence on A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Marg in Delhi on Tuesday. Officials reported that Kapoor shot himself with a licensed revolver.
Upon receiving reports of Kapoor’s death, police arrived at his home and discovered a suicide note. According to a police officer, the note indicated that Kapoor was burdened by financial difficulties. Kapoor had reportedly shot himself in the head.
The suicide note also named five individuals whom Kapoor accused of physically and mentally torturing him. Kapoor’s wife and three children were living separately, while Kapoor’s manager and family were staying with him in his three-story residence.
Kapoor was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The police are investigating the case from all possible angles.
In 2015, Kapoor was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police in connection with two separate cheating cases involving a total of Rs 9 crore. The first case, filed by Satinder Nath Maira, alleged that Kapoor's family friend Prashant Kapoor failed to return an investment of Rs 13 crore, leading to the issuance of bounced cheques. Kapoor was declared an absconder by the Saket court in Delhi.
The second case was filed by Sunita Bansal, who accused Kapoor of defrauding her of Rs 4 crore.
The investigation into Kapoor’s death is underway, with authorities examining all aspects of the case.
