New Delhi, May 3: Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday at the PM's official residence at Lok Kalyan Marg. The meeting comes days after a high-level security review chaired by the Prime Minister in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
Earlier this week, PM Modi convened a meeting attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, the three service chiefs, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) also met a day after the Pahalgam terror incident, in which 26 tourists lost their lives.
The government has reiterated its firm commitment to combat terrorism, promising that those responsible for the attack — both the perpetrators and the masterminds — will face strict retribution. The armed forces have been granted full operational autonomy to determine the method, timing, and targets of India's response.
In response to the attack, the government also held an all-party meeting, during which opposition leaders expressed unanimous support for decisive action against the attackers.
During the CCS briefing, officials highlighted the cross-border nature of the attack, suggesting foreign involvement. The incident occurred soon after successful elections in Jammu and Kashmir and as the region moves toward sustained economic growth and development.
As part of its response, the government has taken strong diplomatic steps, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, to send a clear message to Pakistan over its alleged support for cross-border terrorism.
