Morocco beats resilient Haiti to claim knockout spot

Morocco locked in a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout rounds after fighting back twice to overcome Haiti 4-2 in Atlanta.

Lenny Joseph shocked the African powerhouse in the tenth minute, forcing an own goal off goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. This opener represented Haiti’s first World Cup goal in over five decades, echoing their historic lone appearance back in the 1974 tournament. Achraf Hakimi leveled from close range in the 39th minute, but Wilson Isidor quickly restored Haiti's lead with a beautiful long-range strike. Ismael Saibari equalized just before the break to make it 2-2.

Dominating 70% of second-half possession, Morocco finally broke the Caribbean side's defense through tactical changes. Substitute Soufiane Rahimi scored the decisive go-ahead goal in the 78th minute from a loose corner ball. Gessime Yassine then sealed the victory on an 89th-minute counter-attack, finishing a low pass from Rahimi to ensure safe passage into the final 32.
