Paradip, May 4: In a tragic mishap, at least two drivers were killed after a truck carrying iron ore rammed into a stationary truck inside the restricted zone of Odisha's Paradip Port last night.
The deceased people have been identified as Ratnakar Swain of Astaranga and Chandan Jena of Sandhkuda.
As per reports, Ratnakar and Chandan were attending to a breakdown vehicle when a truck suddenly struck them near plot I-10 within the port premises. The collision was extremely forceful, resulting in their immediate deaths.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the speeding truck fled the scene immediately after the incident.
The accident has sparked unrest within the port area, as drivers and workers voiced their frustration over ongoing safety lapses.
Since the incident, the movement of goods from the plot has been entirely suspended from 3 AM onwards.
In response, enraged drivers staged a protest at Gates 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the port, calling for justice for the victims and urging stricter enforcement of safety protocols within the restricted zone.
An investigation is currently underway, and authorities are actively working to locate the truck driver who fled the scene.
