KSCA honours three legendary cricketers with permanent stadium stands

It is a historic moment for Indian cricket as three of its most decorated servants have been immortalized in concrete and steel. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has officially renamed specific galleries at the venue, unveiling the new M Chinnaswamy Stadium stands dedicated to Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, and Shantha Rangaswamy.

All three icons, who have captained the national side, gathered at the stadium to witness the unveiling. For the cricketing fraternity, this gesture serves as a permanent reminder of the trio's immense contribution to the sport, both for their home state of Karnataka and for India on the global stage.

During the emotional ceremony, Rahul Dravid reflected on his personal connection to the ground. He spoke fondly of his father, who instilled a deep love for cricket in him by bringing him to this very venue to watch Test matches and Ranji Trophy games as a child.

Dravid also highlighted the significance of sharing this honor with Shantha Rangaswamy. He praised her as a true pioneer who paved the way for women’s cricket during an era when resources and recognition were scarce. Rangaswamy holds the distinction of being the first captain of the Indian women's team, leading the Test squad from 1976 to 1984.

Anil Kumble, India’s highest wicket-taker in both Tests and ODIs, expressed his gratitude as well. He noted that while the players helped shape Karnataka cricket, the state's cricket system played an equal role in making them who they are. Kumble added that having their names etched permanently at the stadium is a "truly special" recognition.

The event celebrates statistics that every cricket fan knows by heart. While Kumble ruled with the ball, Dravid remains the second-highest run-getter in Test cricket for India, trailing only Sachin Tendulkar. This renaming initiative ensures that future generations visiting the M Chinnaswamy Stadium stands will remember the legends who once made the country proud on that very turf.
