Puri, May 11: Today marked the commencement of the construction of the three big chariots for the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, his siblings Lord Balavadra, and Devi Subhadra.
Under the leadership of Biswakarma Maharana, carpenters have initiated the construction work for this grand event. Essential timber has been procured and meticulously prepared to facilitate the construction process.
On the first day, the carpenters diligently began shaping the wood for the chariots.
According to religious tradition, temple priests had already handed over the Ajnya Mallya to the three heads of the carpenters' clan to initiate the construction of the three chariots the previous day. The Temple Purohit performed a homa ceremony to mark the beginning of the construction.
To carry out the construction work, three carpenter chiefs (Biswakarmas) were ceremonially adorned with headgear by the temple administration.
On the auspicious day of Ramnavami, the wood logs selected for use in the construction of the chariots were consecrated by the temple priest.
During the construction period, access to the Rath Khala has been restricted to the general public, ensuring uninterrupted progress.
