Bhubaneswar, Nov 15:The Special Crime Unit (SCU) of the Commissionerate Police has busted an inter-state arms trading syndicate, apprehending two accused involved in illegal gun sales. Acting on a tip-off, SCU officers went undercover as buyers and caught the suspects red-handed during a planned major transaction.
The accused, identified as Divyashu Kumar and Chandan Kumar from Khagaria district, Bihar, were attempting to sell one carbine rifle and five pistols. Police also recovered nine live bullets and two mobile phones from their possession.
According to officials, the black-market value of a single carbine ranges from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹2 lakh. However, in a sting operation coordinated by Deputy Commissioner of Police (SCU) Anup Kanungo, the arms dealers were lured with a deal offering ₹5 lakh for a carbine.
Under the pretext of this transaction, the two dealers traveled to Unit-3, Kharabel Nagar last night, where the police successfully arrested them. Investigations have revealed that the weapons were being sourced from Munger, Bihar, and brought to Odisha for sale.
The SCU has intensified efforts to track the broader network involved in arms trafficking across states.
