New Delhi, September 16:The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought a fresh report from the jail authorities on the medical condition of Lovkesh Bajaj, owner of a hotel in Malviya Nagar where a fire on June 3 claimed 23 lives.
Bajaj, who is in judicial custody, had been seeking bail on medical grounds. He was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in August and underwent surgery.
Justice Manoj Jain was informed during the hearing that Bajaj was discharged from RML Hospital on September 15 and has since been sent back to jail.
Appearing for Bajaj, advocates Nitin Ahlawat and Preeti Yadav submitted that only a status report had been filed and that a complete discharge summary had not been placed before the court. They also submitted that Bajaj had fainted while in judicial custody and had open wounds requiring medical care.
The counsel further argued that Bajaj continued to require dressing and medical attention following his surgery.
The court was informed that, following his discharge, the required dressing could be carried out at the jail hospital. After hearing the submissions, the bench directed the jail authorities to file a fresh report on Bajaj's present medical condition.
The matter has been listed for further hearing on September 21.
Earlier on Tuesday, the High Court had sought a status report from RML Hospital regarding Bajaj's medical condition. The report filed before the court on Wednesday stated that he had been discharged following surgery.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police filed a charge sheet on September 2 before the Saket court against Bajaj, Jay Mishra and cook Kesar Negi in connection with the Malviya Nagar hotel fire case. The Saket court is scheduled to consider the charge sheet on September 17.
