New Delhi, May 22: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday filed a chargesheet against former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik and six others in connection with alleged corruption in the Kiru Hydroelectric Project.
The chargesheet names Malik, who served as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from August 23, 2018, to October 30, 2019, along with his two private secretaries and four additional individuals. The case involves alleged irregularities in awarding a civil works contract worth ₹2,200 crore for the Kiru Hydroelectric Power Project in Kishtwar district in 2019.
In February 2024, the CBI carried out searches at over 30 locations, including premises linked to Malik, as part of its probe into the matter. Earlier, on January 29, 2024, the agency had conducted raids at approximately eight locations across Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the CBI, the searches led to the recovery of digital devices, computers, property-related documents, incriminating papers, and over ₹21 lakh in cash.
The investigation revealed that established guidelines related to e-tendering were allegedly bypassed during the awarding of the civil works contract for the project, which is being executed by Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited.
