Bhubaneswar, July 9: The Intelligent Enforcement Management System (IEMS) installed on Bhubaneswar-Puri national highway on Sunday has identified around 6,000 traffic violators in a day, said the transport department.
The IEMS is identifying over speeding vehicles from 300 meters distance the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera taking photo of the vehicle’s number plate following command through Artificial Intelligence (AI) system, said joint transport commissioner Pradeep Kumar Mohanty on Tuesday.
Earlier, the gantry pole project was capable of identifying vehicles running below 150 km/hr. Now, it is capturing photos of vehicles running at 300 km/hr. Two ANPR cameras and one radar has been installed in a gantry pole under this project, he said.
The radar identifies over speeding vehicles from 300 meters distance and directs the ANPR camera to capture the photo of the number plate of the vehicles through AI.
The system has identified violations such as over speeding, driving without helmets, tripling, wrong way driving and reckless driving, said officials.
A dedicated control room has been set up here in Chandrasekharpur to identifying the number plate of traffic violators. Around 15 persons are engaged in this job.
No action will be taken on the violators are being identified initially in the trial process. The transport department will issue a public notification soon and later, e-challans will be sent to mobile no and address of the violators, said a senior official.
