Bhubaneswar, Oct 19: At least five persons were arrested on Thursday in connection with the loot of articles worth Rs 60 lakh from the laboratory of Capital Hospital.
Sources said lab instruments worth over 60 lakhs with some other valuables were stolen from the Capital Hospital, during office hours.
Miscreants wearing aprons reportedly managed to steal medical instruments worth around Rs 60 lakh from the Integrated Testing Laboratory which almost deals with Dengue and Malaria blood samples, said sources.
Being informed, the hospital authorities had lodged a complaint with the Capital police, in this connection.
Taking stock of the stolen goods, Director of Capital Hospital, Dr Laxmidhar Sahu said,"Some unused and newly fetched instruments, meant for various pathological tests, were stocked for installation in a laboratory. The new instruments are worth around Rs 50-60 lakh. Most instruments were mainly meant for blood, sputum, dengue, and malaria tests.”
He also said that verification of the CCTV footage revealed those who had stolen the instruments appeared to be uniform-wearing employees. They had carried the instruments out of the hospital after packing them in sacks while security guards seemed to be involved in the matter.”
Acting on the complaint, the Commissionerate Police had initiated an investigation into the theft and identified as many as five miscreants.
