New Delhi, October 6: The US recorded a trade deficit of USD 6.2 billion with India in August, even as its overall goods and services trade gap widened sharply to USD 105.6 billion, ANI reported on Tuesday, citing data from the US Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
The US deficit with India was lower than its trade gaps with Mexico, Vietnam, Taiwan and China. Mexico accounted for the largest deficit at USD 27.7 billion, followed by Vietnam at USD 24 billion, Taiwan at USD 18.3 billion and China at USD 16.4 billion.
The overall US trade deficit increased by USD 12.7 billion from a revised USD 92.8 billion in July. Data from the US Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis showed that imports rose 4.3 per cent in August, while exports increased 1.4 per cent, ANI reported.

The wider deficit was mainly driven by goods trade. The goods deficit increased by USD 12.8 billion to USD 136.6 billion. The services surplus remained broadly stable at USD 31 billion. Despite the sharp increase in August, the US trade deficit for the first eight months of 2026 remained lower than in the same period last year. The year-to-date deficit fell by USD 138.2 billion, or 19.9 per cent, with exports rising 11.8 per cent and imports increasing 4.4 per cent.
The latest figures come amid continued efforts by India and the US to strengthen bilateral trade and economic ties. (With ANI inputs)
