Dhenkanal, July 12: In a tragic incident, two individuals have died and three others are in critical condition after consuming toxic country-made liquor in Bampa village, located in the Hindol sub-division under Rasol police station.
The deceased have been identified as Manmath Samal and Prafulla Samal, both residents of Bampa. The critically ill, identified as Sushant Majhi and Rahas Majhi, have been admitted to Dhenkanal District Hospital and Cuttack for urgent treatment. According to Sushant Majhi, the victims began experiencing severe chest pain, breathing difficulties, and violent vomiting shortly after consuming the alcohol on the evening of the incident.
This fatal incident is not isolated. In the past week, a total of seven deaths have been linked to the consumption of the same toxic country liquor in the region. The additional deceased are Suresh Patra, Dayanidhi Sethy, Goura Majhi, and Driver Bhoi, all aged between 45 and 55.
The widespread use of this dangerous alcohol has led to a climate of fear in the village, with residents increasingly concerned about the hazardous impact of consuming locally-made liquor. Authorities have yet to comment on potential actions to curb the distribution of the toxic substance.
