Bhubaneswar, September 22: Odisha Police have honoured Special Public Prosecutor Rashmi Ranjan Brahma for his contribution to securing convictions in more than 50 high-profile cases, particularly those registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and investigated by the Special Task Force (STF).

Brahma, who serves as a Special Public Prosecutor at the Bhubaneswar District Court, was recently honoured by Odisha DGP Vinaytosh Mishra for his role in securing convictions in several high-profile NDPS cases tried before the Bhubaneswar courts.

He has been handling some important drug trafficking and smuggling cases and has played a significant role in the prosecution of accused persons involved in the illegal trade of narcotic substances.

Earlier, Brahma was also honoured by Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate for his contribution to the prosecution of drug trafficking cases.

Brahma has been associated with several important NDPS prosecutions in the Bhubaneswar Special Court. His work has contributed to convictions in cases involving substantial quantities of narcotic substances and alleged drug trafficking networks.

In one notable case, the Bhubaneswar court sentenced five persons to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on each of them in a drug trafficking case. In another case, two accused persons were sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹1 lakh each under the NDPS Act.

In a separate case, Bibhuti Bhusan Jena was sentenced by the Bhubaneswar ADJ Court-II to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹1 lakh for his involvement in drug trafficking.

Apart from NDPS cases, Brahma has also been entrusted with several high-profile cases investigated by the STF. He has secured convictions in 10 such cases before the Bhubaneswar courts.

Recognising his contribution to STF prosecutions, DIG STF Kanwar Vishal Singh appreciated and honoured Brahma for his work. The Superintendent of Police, STF, Odisha, has also appreciated Brahma for his role in securing convictions in cases involving drug trafficking and smuggling. He has received commendations from senior law enforcement officials for his work in conducting prosecutions and presenting cases before the courts.

Brahma's approach has involved detailed preparation of cases, scrutiny of charge sheets and effective presentation of evidence before the courts. His prosecution work has contributed to bringing several accused persons to trial and securing convictions in cases involving drug trafficking and other serious offences.

His recognition by senior police officials highlights the role of effective prosecution in strengthening the legal response to Drug trafficking and other organised criminal activities in Odisha.

Brahma has also handled sensitive prosecutions involving cyber-enabled offences, including cases relating to alleged foreign intelligence coordination and illegal SIM card operations which link to Pakistan and Bangladesh.
