Bhubaneswar, May 18: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange and Yellow warnings for Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds from May 19 to May 23 across several districts.
A weather system involving a trough and cyclonic circulation is influencing conditions in eastern India, including Odisha.
May 19: Orange warning for 40–50 kmph winds in parts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, and others. Yellow warning for 30–40 kmph winds in coastal and interior districts.
May 20–23: Yellow warnings continue in various districts for wind speeds up to 50 kmph, with thunderstorms and lightning.
Hot and humid conditions will persist, especially in coastal and southern Odisha.
No major temperature drop is expected, with highs likely to remain above 40°C in Sambalpur and Bargarh.
Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
