Bhubaneswar, Nov 5: Confusion has resurfaced over the dates for celebrating Diwali and performing Shyama Kali Puja in Odisha, with November 8 and 9 emerging as two possible dates.
Traditionally, many Odia households follow the rituals and festival dates observed at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri. However, this year, the Amavasya Tithi at the temple falls on November 9, while Paya Shraddha is scheduled for November 8.
According to the lunar calendar, Amavasya Tithi begins at 11:28 AM on Sunday, November 8, and continues until Monday afternoon, November 9.

Astrologers have advised observing Deepadana and Paya Shraddha on November 8, as both are traditionally performed during the night.
They point out that the Amavasya Tithi will not prevail during the night of November 9.
Astrologer Harishankar Mishra said that the traditional almanac mentions November 8 as the appropriate date for celebrating Diwali, the festival of lights.
Thus, the difference between the temple rituals and the night-time observance of Amavasya has sparked confusion over the festival dates.
