Bhubaneswar: A methodical actor, Rajkummar Rao, has always sunk into the skin of the comic, romance and horror characters he played on the screen.
Know for sporting the versatility streak, the Stree 2 actor is now stepping into the crime world like never before in his upcoming project Maalik – an intense action thriller directed by Pulkit.
Tips Films and Norther Light Film have the producer of Maalik, whose plot is said to be set against the gritty backdrop of Allahabad and Lucknow.
Rao fans have been eager to see him donning a full-fledged gangster role, the new update about Maalik that added more excitement is Huma Qureshi has been signed for the film. She will be doing an item number.

Rajkummar Rao and Huma Qureshi has been seen together on screen in Monica, O My Darling, will be making a cameo in Maalik. It will be a high-energy dance sequence, said a news report.
Recently, a news report has shed light on the plot of the item song. It said Rao’s character and his gang receive a tip-off about their target hiding in a local bar. As they enter for a quick job, Huma Qureshi steals attention with a raw and powerful performance.
“The song is choreographed by Vijay Ganguly and composed by Sachin-Jigar, and adds an electrifying touch to the film. The sequence has been designed in a gritty style, similar to iconic Bollywood dance numbers,” it added.

Cine critics say Maalik wil bring a new side of Rajkummar Rao to the big screen. The actor has recently entertained audiences with comedies like Stree 2 and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. But the actor was never seen donning action avatar. But Maalik will put the arclight on Rao’s action bone as he dons the character of underworld don. This film will give his career a paradigm shift, they observed.
Shooting o the film was over in 2024. Post Production work has been wrapped up. Fans are eagerly awaiting for its release. Adding to the excitement, reports suggest that Manushi Chhillar might also be a part of the film, though it is not officially confirmed.
Maalik is set for a grand theatrical release on June 20, 2025.
