Sports climbing summer camp concludes

Bhubaneswar: The Sport Climbing Summer Camp 2026 wrapped up with an inspiring closing ceremony at the Climbing Wall in Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. Organised by the Odisha Tata Steel Adventure Foundation Sport Climbing High Performance Centre (HPC) in partnership with the Department of Sports and Youth Services, Government of Odisha.

 

This two-week intensive program successfully introduced young participants to the growing world of adventure sports. Running from May 5 to May 19, 2026, the camp engaged driven youth across various age groups.

 

The program aimed to teach essential skills, physical conditioning, climbing techniques and safety protocols through mentorship from certified national instructors and performance coaches.

 

The closing ceremony featured leaders and experts from the sports and academic communities. Attendees included Dr. Yeddula Vijay, Director Sports, Bijay Swain, CEO HPCO and Additional Secretary Sports, Ashok Panda, Additional Secretary Sports, Amit Kumar Nayak, Deputy Secretary Sports, Dhiraj Pattanaik, OSD, Sports, Secretary Sports Saswat Kumar Rout and Smt. Sonali Subhadarshini, OSD Sports.

 

The gathering also included prominent climbing and academic figures like Manoj Kumar Dakua, Odisha’s first national sport climber and a participant in the 2018 Asian Games Selection Camp, who has over 12 years of professional experience. Chitrabhanu Chaudhuri, Assistant Professor of Mathematics at NISER Bhubaneswar and an experienced climber with 13 years of technical background, also attended.
