Bhubaneswar, Aug 6: While the Mahanadi Water Dispute between Odisha & Chhattisgarh that dates backs to a few decades and the matter is yet subjudice, now getting a vent-way for amicable settlement.
The Mahanadi Water Dispute Tribunal, which is hearing the long-fought legal battle between two adjacent-neighbors, has recently allowed both the states to go for an amicable settlement on the water issues. Meanwhile, a Chief-Minister-level discussion has already been held between Odisha & Chhattisgarh wherein both states submitted their written consent for bi-lateral discussion on the matter. Follwing this, the two concerned parties expressed their interest to come closer towards reconciliation of the long-run tug of war, for equipartition of the water resources of the River Mahanadi.
The development followed the two state’s sincere bilateral correspondences and the intervention of the Ministry of Water Resources, government of India, as the the three governances are now collinearly working on bringing a permanent solution to the long-pending dispute.
Most significantly, the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal headed by Justice Bela M Trivedi granted additional time for both the states to discuss & decide amicably over the issues, acknowleging the Chief Minister-level correspondences, which indicated a beacon of hope for an emerging solution on the bone of contention between the two neighbors.
Thus, the hearing on the Mahanadi water dispute in the special Tribunal that was scheduled recently, was postponed for September 6.
As the case was tabled, Advocate General of Odisha, Pitambar Acharya, apprised the Tribunal and informed that both states are in favour of ammicable discussions at the level of Chief Secretaries with the suo moto consonance of the concerned state leaderships.
The development on the Mahanadi Water dispute, stemed from informal exchange of letters between Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai wherein both the state-heads expressed their interests to go for resolving the long-standing water dispute as soon as possible, with the guidance of the Union Minister for Water Resources.
Adding air to it, Odisha CM Majhi on Wednesday called on Union Minister for Water Resources Minister CR Paatil in New Delhi and discussed on the Mahanadi issues that has been a bone of contention of the state with Chhattisgarh.
During an hour-long discussion with Patil and his high-ranked officials Majhi urged them to bring up the matter for a fair & judicious resolution.
Following the discussion, Majhi took to X and wrote, “Called on Union Jal Shakti Minister Shri C. R. Patil today in New Delhi. Raised Odisha’s concerns over the Mahanadi water dispute and stressed the need for a fair and just resolution.On this occasion, handed over the ‘Vision Odisha 2036 | 2047’, outlining the State’s long-term development approach.”
On the other hand, Patil reportedly asserted all types of co-operation in resolving the Mahanadi issues between the two resourceful states.
According to some Odisha elites, Odisha and Chhattisgarh are now having a systemic paradigm in governance with one and unique BJP Cabinets. The Centre which is said to be the mitochondria for the federal states is also having Narendra Modi & Amit Shah-led BJP government. Thus, it’s the best time to resolve all the disagreements and disputes relating to the River Mahanadi between Odisha & Chhattisgarh with the efficient guidance of Modi and his sincere brigades.
