Vadodara, Jan 8: Baroda defeated Odisha by 147 runs on Day-4 in a Group-D Ranji Trophy match, being played at Motibaug Cricket Ground, here on Monday.
Winners Baroda were awarded 6 vital points, while Odisha have to wait till their next opportunity to open their account in this Ranji season.
Playing on their home turf, Baroda proved their supremacy in all three departments of the game. Mitesh Patel (116) in the first innings and Sashwat Rawat (102) in the second, were the two centurions for the victorious team.
Chasing a victory target of 432, Odisha were bundled out for 284 in their second innings. Skipper Shantanu Mishra (78) was the top scorer.
Anurag Sarangi (56), Sandeep Patnaik (51) and Suryakanta Pradhan (46) battled hard to delay the eventuality and draw the match. But finally Baroda prevailed over Odisha and scripted a convincing 147-run victory
Baroda off-spinner Mahesh Virambhai Pithiya, with a 5/61 bowling figure in the second innings, was the greatest obstacle for Odisha in their efforts to drag the match to a time-draw result on the final day of the tie.
Earlier, 18-year-old Odisha keeper Aashirwad Swain and Baroda's 22-year-old opener Kinit Pankaj Bhai Patel made their Ranji debuts.
Despite his side winning with a huge margin, Kinit failed with the bat in both the innings scoring only 4 and 1.
Odisha's Under 19 star Aashirwad too proved that he may require more time to flourish as a batsman at the higher levels. He scored 2 and 21 in his two opportunities in the game.
However, as a keeper, Aashirwad was involved in four dismissals in the match. Considering his debut match at Ranji level, he did a good job as a wicket-keeper.
Odisha will next play Madhya Pradesh at Shankarpur from January 12 to 15 next.
Brief scores:
Baroda 351/10 and 258/4d.
Odisha 178 and 284.
Baroda won by 147 runs and earn 6 Points.
