New Delhi, May 15: President Droupadi Murmu has invoked Article 143(1) of the Constitution to seek the Supreme Court's opinion on its April 8 ruling that set specific timelines for governors and the President to act on bills passed by state legislatures.
In a rare move, the President submitted 14 key legal questions to the apex court, stating that they are of such "public importance and legal significance" that seeking the Court’s advice is deemed necessary.
Article 143(1) empowers the President to refer questions of law to the Supreme Court for its advisory opinion, especially on matters of constitutional interpretation and national interest.
