Terror operatives linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba openly attended the funeral of Shahid Akhtar, the older brother of legendary Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, in Islamabad. A video clip broadcasted by the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML)—the political face of the banned terror group—showed prominent extremist figures standing in prayer lines during the ceremony.
The funeral drew several high-profile radicals, including PMML Islamabad chief Inam-ur-Rehman Kamboh, deputy general secretary Abdullah Toor, and zonal general secretary Hafiz Umar. These individuals remain close loyalists of Hafiz Saeed, the UN-designated terrorist who orchestrated the 2006 Mumbai attacks. Shahid Akhtar passed away earlier this week following a sudden cardiac arrest, prompting public condolences from his cricketer brother, who has not commented on the controversial attendees.
This blatant public appearance by internationally blacklisted entities exposes how extremist handlers continue to find a safe harbor inside Pakistan, moving freely within elite social and public circles without fear of state reprisal. Indian counter-terrorism experts view this integration as clear validation of New Delhi's long-standing grievances regarding state-backed cross-border militancy.
