Lucknow, May 22: A polling officer stationed at a booth in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency has been suspended for reportedly taking selfies with his mobile phone while capturing images of voters during polling, disclosed a senior polling official.
Navdeep Rinwa, the Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh, stated that Ashish Kumar Arya, an assistant teacher at Girls' Primary School Umri in Muskara block of Hamirpur district, was assigned as a polling officer at polling station 112 of Shri Vidya Mandir Inter College in the Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency.
In a flagrant breach of the Election Commission's (EC) regulations, Arya faced suspension due to his inappropriate behavior.
In response to the breach of the EC's guidelines, the District Basic Education Officer in Hamirpur took action, suspending Arya from his duties and transferring him to the Block Resource Centre in Muskara, Rinwa added.
