Patna, March 19: The Patna High Court on Thursday granted bail to Janata Dal (United) MLA Anant Singh, who had been implicated in the murder of Dularchand Yadav, a supporter of Jan Suraaj.
Anant Singh had been arrested ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, alongside his associates, Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram. Despite his arrest, Singh went on to secure a resounding victory from the Mokama Assembly seat in Patna district, defeating RJD candidate Veena Devi, who is Surajbhan Singh’s wife, by a margin of 28,206 votes. Veena Devi garnered 63,210 votes.
After his victory, Singh was sworn in as an MLA in the Bihar Vidhan Sabha. Before taking the oath, he sought blessings from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar by touching his feet.
The murder of Dularchand Yadav occurred during a violent clash between supporters of two rival candidates in Mokama on October 30. Singh was accused of masterminding the killing and was arrested by the police on November 1.
According to Bihar’s Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar, the post-mortem report revealed that the cause of death was cardiac and respiratory failure, not a gunshot injury. While a bullet mark was found on the victim's leg, DGP Kumar clarified that it was not the fatal injury, confirming that the primary cause of death was heart and lung failure.
