Bhubaneswar, Nov 7: Bhubaneswar witnessed two shocking murder incidents within a single night, triggering concern across the state. While a shooting incident was reported on Cuttack Road under Laxmisagar police limits, another brutal murder took place at Tarini Basti in VSS Nagar under Saheed Nagar police station limits.
In the latter incident, a man allegedly killed his brother-in-law by repeatedly hitting him with a stone. The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Pathani Sahu.
Accused Attempts To Pass Off Murder As Accident
The accused, identified as Suresh Singh, allegedly committed the crime following an argument with his brother-in-law on Thursday night. After the murder, he reportedly dragged the body towards the railway tracks and left it nearby in an attempt to make it appear like an accidental death.
However, the accused failed to execute his plan and was subsequently detained by police from the locality. A scientific team visited the crime scene and collected several samples for investigation.
According to Zone-5 ACP Bishwaranjan Senapati, preliminary investigation suggests that Suresh killed his brother-in-law with a stone following an altercation. The accused allegedly attempted to mislead the police by leaving the body near the railway tracks.
The ACP further stated that Suresh's wife had left home following marital discord. He had subsequently called his brother-in-law to stay and work with him. The two reportedly had an argument on Thursday night, following which Suresh allegedly attacked and killed him.
Police said a formal case would be registered following the receipt of a complaint, and further investigation is underway to establish the exact motive behind the murder.
Deceased's Sister Alleges Murder After Drinking
The deceased's sister, Kaveri Nayak, said that Pathani had been working in Puri and was called by Suresh to Bhubaneswar on the previous day. He was reportedly taken for work, after which the accused allegedly collected money, consumed alcohol and killed him.
She also alleged that Suresh used to physically assault his wife, forcing the family to take her away from his house.
The family is devastated by the death of Pathani, who was their only brother.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
