Delhi, May 11: Pakistan's army chief General Asim Munir is following Musharraf’s paths to taking Pakistan towards fall, said India's former High Commissioner to Pakistan,G Parthasarthy, on Sunday.
Expressing concern for the India-Pakistan tensions, he said that by initiating the recent conflict with India, Pakistan's army chief General Asim Munir repeated the "mistakes" made by ex-army chief and later President, Parvez Musharraf.
The ex-diplomat said while responding on the ceasefire agreement, "When I was in Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf initiated the Kargil conflict (1999) by taking over high mountains in the Himalayas. We taught them a lesson at the high altitude of the Himalayas and drove them out of Kargil. So, I am not surprised that General Asim Munir is repeating the same mistakes that Musharraf made."
He added, "Musharraf made that mistake, staged a coup and then took over. I hope they are able to protect their civilian government now, after Asim Munir is made to look ridiculous like we did to Pervez Musharraf earlier on in Kargil."
On the other hand, Parthasarthy credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government for the ceasefire agreement, adding that the biggest credit goes to the armed forces.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Parthasarthy said, has "cut a pathetic figure" as the Pakistan Army "virtually the axis of the country."
Paarthsarthy stated, "Their (Pakistan Army's) operations against India were not put up to the PM or approved by the PM by all accounts. If that has been done, it has not been spoken about and therefore, we have Shehbaz Sharif now asking for peace as his brother (ex-Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif) had sought with us during Kargil."
