Bhubaneswar, September 10: Odisha will observe the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign from September 17 to October 2, focusing on cleanliness, sanitation, citizen participation, sanitation workers’ welfare and sustainable urban living.
A meeting on the campaign was held through video conference with the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs. Odisha Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Additional Chief Secretary Usha Padhee and senior officials participated in the meeting.
The campaign, based on the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat”, will involve citizens, government agencies, elected representatives, students, youth and community organisations.
Key activities will include cleaning and transformation of garbage-vulnerable points, youth engagement programmes, health and welfare camps for sanitation workers, zero-waste activities and initiatives promoting waste-to-wealth and circular economy practices.
A major statewide “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” Shramdaan drive will be held on October 1, while the campaign will conclude with Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2.
The State government has directed urban local bodies to ensure sustained cleanliness, beautification and maintenance of identified locations, while strengthening public participation to build a cleaner, healthier and sustainable Odisha.
