New Delhi, September 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, with the two leaders reviewing the progress of bilateral cooperation and discussing ways to further strengthen the multifaceted India-South Africa Strategic Partnership.
During the meeting, Modi and Ramaphosa took stock of cooperation across various sectors and reaffirmed the close and longstanding relationship between the two countries.
The leaders noted that India-South Africa ties are anchored in a shared history of struggle, strong cultural bonds, growing economic cooperation and deep people-to-people linkages.
India, South Africa to Strengthen Coordination at Multilateral Forums
The two leaders also exchanged views on a range of regional and global issues of mutual interest and agreed to maintain close coordination at multilateral forums.
Modi highlighted the successful translocation of cheetahs from South Africa to India and invited South Africa to consider joining the International Big Cat Alliance, an initiative aimed at strengthening international cooperation for the conservation of big cat species.
President Ramaphosa thanked Modi for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation during their visit to New Delhi. He also congratulated India on the successful organisation of the 18th BRICS Summit.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of India and South Africa to deepen bilateral engagement and work together on issues of common interest at regional and global platforms.
