Jajpur, Aug 4: Police in Odisha's Jajpur on Monday arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl.
The accused has been identified as Alekh Malik and the incident has been reported from Dasarathpur block of the district.
As per reports, Malik had visited the village of the minor girl in Dasarathpur block while staying at a relative's house in the area.
He took the girl to a nearby market on Sunday, saying he would buy her chocolates. However, he allegedly sexually assaulted her there. Later, he dropped her back at her home.
When the girl complained of pain while urinating, her family became suspicious. After she shared what had happened, her family confronted the accused’s relatives about the incident.
However, the situation turned violent when Alekh's relatives allegedly attacked the girl's family, prompting them to call the police for help.
Thereafter, the victim’s father filed a complaint with the police following which police swung into action and made the arrest after registering a case.
The victim has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment and further investigation into the matter is underway, said the police.
