Eight Odisha districts face thunderstorm warnings following intense rainfall
Scattered heavy downpours lashed coastal Odisha over the past 24 hours, prompting meteorologists to place eight districts on yellow alert. Official observation data released by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar showed that Mundali in Cuttack recorded the highest rainfall at 69.6 mm, closely followed by Naraj at 67.6 mm. Remuna in Balasore recorded 60.0 mm, while Chandua in Mayurbhanj logged 44.0 mm. Pattamundai in Kendrapara also registered 40.0 mm of precipitation during this period.
Yellow warning issued for eight districts
Meteorological officials have issued a yellow alert valid through Monday morning for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur. These districts are forecast to encounter isolated thunderstorms with lightning along with gusty surface wind speeds reaching 30 to 40 kmph. Residents across these vulnerable belts should remain alert during afternoon convective squalls. Southern and western interior belts face no severe weather warnings, with only isolated showers predicted across remaining pockets.
Twin City Outlook Points To Unsettled Conditions
Bhubaneswar and Cuttack will likely experience partly cloudy skies with intermittent rain or thunderstorms over the coming week. Maximum daytime temperatures in Bhubaneswar will hover between 34°C and 35°C, while night temperatures will stay around 25°C to 26°C. Cuttack will experience daytime readings between 33°C and 34°C alongside minimum levels around 23°C to 25°C. Over the past 24 hours, Cuttack logged 11.0 mm of rainfall with a daytime peak of 31.2°C, whereas Bhubaneswar recorded 2.1 mm and peaked at 31.9°C.
Monsoon patterns bring wide regional variations
Late September represents the seasonal retreat phase of the southwest monsoon over eastern India, frequently producing sharp localized contrasts in precipitation. While northern and coastal belts like Cuttack and Balasore registered large excess rainfall departures exceeding 300 percent, southern interior districts remained completely dry. Nuapada, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri recorded zero rainfall over the last 24 hours. Nayagarh logged the highest maximum temperature across the plains at 33.4°C, while Boudh recorded the lowest minimum at 19.2°C.
