Valid until 8:30 AM on September 29, 2026, the alert covers Sundargarh, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Dhenkanal, and Angola. IMD meteorologists caution that surface wind gusts could reach 30 to 40 kmph during localized squalls. All other districts remain under a green advisory with no adverse conditions anticipated. Late September often brings localised convective activity across Odisha as southwest monsoon currents retreat, triggering brief yet intense lightning activity during late afternoon hours.

Sharp deficit in daily rainfall activity
Recent rainfall data released by Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar shows dry conditions persisting across the state. Odisha recorded an average rainfall of just 0.1 mm over the past 24 hours against the normal seasonal expectation of 3.8 mm, reflecting a steep 97 percent deficit. Light precipitation was confined to scattered stations in northern and central Odisha. Sundargarh witnessed light showers, with Lathkata recording 8.0 mm, while Panposh and Rourkela both clocked 6.6 mm, followed by Rajgangapur at 0.6 mm. Elsewhere, Barmul in Nayagarh recorded 2.2 mm and Joshipur in Mayurbhanj registered 1.0 mm. For the coming day, light and isolated rainfall covering 25 percent or less area is predicted across all 30 districts.

Mercury fluctuations across interior and coastal belts
Daytime temperatures remained relatively warm across the coastal plains. Paradip recorded the state's highest maximum temperature at 34.2 degrees Celsius, while interior Boudh recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 19.5 degrees Celsius. In the twin cities, Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum of 33.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24.6 degrees Celsius. Neighboring Cuttack logged a peak of 33.0 degrees Celsius and a night low of 23.2 degrees Celsius. Both capital hubs witnessed dry conditions with zero rainfall.
