
Berhampur, Oct 13: In a freak road mishap reported from Ganjam-Khordha border area in Odisha, an SUV driver's hand got severed and several others sustained critical injuries after a truck rammed into a Bolero in the wee hours of Monday.
Three passengers in the Bolero including the driver sustained critical injuries, while seven others suffered minor injuries. All injured victims have been admitted to Balugaon hospital for medical treatment.
According to reports, a Bolero carrying several passengers was returning from Ghatagaon Tarini in Keonjhar district. The vehicle was en route to Berhampur after the darshan when the driver attempted to overtake a truck near Jali Sankha.
As the Bolero was gaining speed to overtake the truck, another speeding truck approaching from behind crashed into it. The impact of the head-on collision left seven passengers injured, three of them critically. The Bolero driver suffered a severe injury, with one of his hands torn off in the crash.
Locals quickly gathered at the scene and informed the police. All the injured were rushed to a hospital in Balugaon for treatment.
However, the truck driver managed to flee the spot. Sources revealed that the stretch of road has become a frequent accident zone due to ongoing construction work on NH-16.
Official sources confirmed that a case has been registered, and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Efforts are currently underway to locate the truck involved in the mishap and identify the absconding driver.
