Berhampur, Nov 9: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has focussed Gopalpur Assembly constituency of Ganjam district for 2024.
Party candidate Bibhuti Jena lost the seat in 2019 by 2673 votes only. The party is trying to get the seat in 2024.
The state BJP changed Ganjam district presidnt Bibhuti Bhusan Jena and appointed Dr Subash Sahoo this week to strengthen organisation.
The oppostion to 2019 Berhampur Lok Sabha candidate Bhrugu Baxipatra is said to be another reason behind change of district president.
The Ganjam district BJP committee had issued a resolution debarring Bhrugu Baxipatra from visiting Berhampur. He was not attending any party programme following the resolution. It's said to be a reason behind replacing Jena.
Corporator Nilakantha Sahoo had thrown ink at party state president Manmohan Samal during his Berhampur visit. Though the party had suspended the corporator, Samal had taken it seriously.
Jena has refuted the involvement of any opposition group and said the party took the decision to strengthen organisation in Gopalpur. I had requested the state leadership to appoint new president as my tenure had completed, said Jena.
