How Gautam Adani's Kitchen Seva Inspired ISKCON Volunteers
In a notable display of humility, industrialist Gautam Adani recently set aside his corporate role to join volunteers in the bustling kitchens of ISKCON. The Adani Group Chairman, accompanied by his wife, Dr. Priti Adani, and son, Karan Adani, visited the Adani–ISKCON mega kitchens during the Jagannath Puri Ratha Yatra. The family was there to inspect the large-scale operations that provide sanctified meals, or 'prasad', to lakhs of devotees daily.
During their visit, volunteers affectionately requested Mr. Adani to participate in the cooking service, known as 'seva'. Despite initial reservations from his security detail, he readily agreed, wishing to bring joy to the hardworking kitchen team. He spent time rolling puris and helping stir sabji, creating a moment of shared joy and unity. The spontaneous gesture was seen as a sincere appreciation for the tireless work of the volunteers.
The entire family embraced the spirit of service. In a particularly touching moment, when Dr. Priti Adani was struggling to handle a large cooking utensil, her son Karan immediately stepped forward to support her. Observers noted this simple act as a profound reflection of the family's deep-rooted values, suggesting they are rich not only financially but also in culture, humility, and mutual respect.
The act did not go unnoticed. ISKCON management lauded the visit, highlighting it as a powerful message about leadership. "It reminded us that true greatness lies in service—not position," an ISKCON representative stated. The organization believes that such personal engagement from prominent business leaders can inspire others to connect with and support India's rich spiritual and cultural heritage in a more heartfelt manner. The family's hands-on participation was viewed not as a planned photo opportunity, but as a genuine expression of their value system.
