Mumbai, July 2: Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao is set to portray former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly in an upcoming biopic, the actor recently confirmed in a media interaction.
“Since Dada has already spoken, I can confirm it too. Yes, I am playing Sourav Ganguly in his biopic. It’s a huge responsibility, and I’m a bit nervous about it. But I know I will enjoy playing this role,” Rao stated.
The announcement comes days after Ganguly himself revealed in an interview that Rajkummar Rao would be the ideal choice to bring his story to the big screen. According to Ganguly, filming for the biopic is scheduled to begin in 2026, with a theatrical release planned for December of the same year.
While the official announcement regarding the film’s director and full cast is still awaited, industry buzz suggests that acclaimed filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane may helm the project. Rao and Motwane have previously collaborated on the critically acclaimed film Trapped.
Further details about the production are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
