Odisha: Centre extends tenure of IMD DG Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra by two years

Bhubaneswar, Aug 5: Union Government approved a proposal to extend the tenure of the Director General of India Meteorological Department (IMD) Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra by two years.

According to reports, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has given its approval for his reappointment.

As per an official notification from the Department of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr. Mohapatra's extension will be on a contract basis. His original tenure was scheduled to conclude on August 31, 2024.

Dr. Mohapatra, popularly known as the Cyclone Man of India, has been instrumental in enhancing weather forecasting and warning systems in the country. His contributions have significantly helped save lives and minimize the impact of natural disasters.

Under his leadership, the IMD has made remarkable progress in delivering timely and accurate weather forecasts, which has greatly aided disaster management and mitigation efforts.

The extension of his tenure is anticipated to further enhance the country’s weather forecasting capabilities.
