Dhenkanal, Oct 23: A farmer turns the soil into gold, nurturing the earth to produce a rich harvest. And standing steadfastly beside the farmer is his trusted companion-the bullock. Deeply rooted in Indian culture and tradition, bullocks have long been an integral part of rural agriculture and the agrarian economy. Beyond the fields, these sturdy animals also hold a special place in age-old trading customs and community celebrations.

One such remarkable tradition comes alive in Odisha’s historic town of Bhuban, where the annual Bali Jatra- popularly known as the Bullock Festival- celebrates not just a centuries-old custom, but also the enduring bond between humans and animals.

The festival offers a glimpse into a time when livestock played a vital role in everyday life, symbolising hard work, companionship and prosperity.

Grand farewell to Goddess Durga

The historic Bullock Festival in Bhuban concluded peacefully, marking the end of the grand farewell procession of Goddess Durga. Accompanied by the rhythmic beats of traditional musical instruments, the immersion procession began at 7 pm on Thursday and continued until Friday morning.

Thousands of devotees gathered along the streets to bid farewell to the Goddess. The air resonated with the sounds of conch shells and the ululation of women, creating an atmosphere steeped in devotion and spiritual fervour.
